What is the Methane Exhauster?

The Methane Exhauster is a high performance machine that provides increased production and safety. It is used in:

GOB Application

The most common use of the Methane Exhauster is on the "gob well" of long-wall mining. Methane stratification in the mine can result in high methane concentration in the "gob area". When the roof collapses behind the long-wall face, large quantities of gas are released. The Methane Exhauster removes large quantities of gas before it reaches other areas of the mine. To begin the process of removal of the methane, a hole is drilled within about 50 feet of the coal seam and a perforated pipe is inserted. The Methane Exhauster is connected to the top of the now cased pipe and the clutch puts the machine in gear. In about 30 seconds, you can turn off the Propane, which primes the machine, and turn on the extracted methane.

Basic Design Features

A Methane Exhauster is a simple, self-contained machine that pumps gas. The prime mover is an IC engine. The fuel to drive the pump is a small portion of the mine gas that is being pumped from the mine.

Methane Exhausters are available in many configurations. KSD Enterprises, LLC, the manufacturer and supporter of the Methane Exhauster, works with the user to determine which capacities and features are needed for his operation.

Installation of the Methane Exhauster is simple. Typically a Methane Exhauster can be removed from operation at once site and put back into operation at another site in less than a day!
